| 内容記述 | The purpose of this paper is to clarify the functions of Japanese trade associations in pharmaceutical distribution system. Trade associations can be defined as a group business firms joined into an organization for the solution of common problems. Trade associations cover a wide variety of functions. Trade association activities include trade promotion, product standardization, exchange of price and other statistical information, industry cost analyses, technical collaboration and counseling, collective bargaining, employee training, prevention of fraud and unfair methods of competition, commercial arbitration, and providing a forum for discussion of problems of mutual interest. This paper concerns function to restrict competition or to mediate interest among trade associations. It has been said that the trade association shades quite imperceptibly into cartel. However, there were relatively few instance in which cartel attempts to restrict competition, and it is also true that there had been tough competition in many industries even after the formation of cartel organizations, particularly in pharmaceutical distribution system. How effective were cartel agreements in restricting competition? We concluded that cartel agreements of pharmaceutical distribution system did not have a substantial effect upon restricting competition. | |||||
