Within a few years, a growing taste for\nChinese exoticism (“chinoiserie”) started a fashion for porcelain, and saw the\nconstruction of elaborate gardens and exotic buildings such as pagodas around\nthe country.\nWalpole was initially attracted to Chinese exoticism, but, as we can see in\nhis Note to The History of the Modern Taste in Gardening, he later came to feel\ndiscontent with the trend. Moving toward a stronger British national identity,\nhe wrote Anecdotes of Painting in England (1762), and leaned toward the\nGothic Revival style.\nAfter the 1760s, other writers like Percy, Macpherson and Chatterton also\nbegan to gravitate toward a more Medievalist stance. In 1764, with the publication\nof his The Castle of Otranto, the first Gothic novel, Walpole demonstrated\nhow the focus of his concern had shifted from the exotic Orient to\nmedieval Britain, in other words, from Orientalism to a concern with “Englishness”.\nThe late nineteenth century trend for medievalism, on the other hand, was\na different phenomenon, a reaction to the rapid industrialization taking place in\nBritain. The paper concludes that the picture of the Middle Ages which\nWilliam Morris drew in his News from Nowhere (1890), and which could also\nbe found in the landscape paintings of John Constable, was a “utopia” of\n“Englishness” unspoiled by industrialization, an era where English people of\nthe 19th century could reaffirm their national identity.","subitem_description_type":"Abstract"}]},"item_10002_publisher_8":{"attribute_name":"出版者","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_publisher":"桃山学院大学"}]},"item_10002_source_id_11":{"attribute_name":"書誌レコードID","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_source_identifier":"AA12704345","subitem_source_identifier_type":"NCID"}]},"item_10002_source_id_9":{"attribute_name":"ISSN","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_source_identifier":"21889031","subitem_source_identifier_type":"ISSN"}]},"item_10002_version_type_20":{"attribute_name":"著者版フラグ","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_version_resource":"http://purl.org/coar/version/c_970fb48d4fbd8a85","subitem_version_type":"VoR"}]},"item_creator":{"attribute_name":"著者","attribute_type":"creator","attribute_value_mlt":[{"creatorNames":[{"creatorName":"日下, 隆平"},{"creatorName":"クサカ, リュウヘイ","creatorNameLang":"ja-Kana"}],"nameIdentifiers":[{"nameIdentifier":"362","nameIdentifierScheme":"WEKO"}]},{"creatorNames":[{"creatorName":"KUSAKA, Ryuhei","creatorNameLang":"en"}],"nameIdentifiers":[{"nameIdentifier":"363","nameIdentifierScheme":"WEKO"}]}]},"item_files":{"attribute_name":"ファイル情報","attribute_type":"file","attribute_value_mlt":[{"accessrole":"open_date","date":[{"dateType":"Available","dateValue":"2018-04-27"}],"displaytype":"detail","filename":"73_日下隆平.pdf","filesize":[{"value":"514.7 kB"}],"format":"application/pdf","licensetype":"license_note","mimetype":"application/pdf","url":{"label":"日下隆平","url":"https://stars.repo.nii.ac.jp/record/8948/files/73_日下隆平.pdf"},"version_id":"ca93962c-b149-4420-b255-b040d72f912a"}]},"item_keyword":{"attribute_name":"キーワード","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_subject":"中世主義","subitem_subject_scheme":"Other"},{"subitem_subject":"シノアズリ","subitem_subject_scheme":"Other"},{"subitem_subject":"イングリッシュネス","subitem_subject_scheme":"Other"},{"subitem_subject":"モリス","subitem_subject_scheme":"Other"},{"subitem_subject":"ウォルポール","subitem_subject_scheme":"Other"}]},"item_language":{"attribute_name":"言語","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_language":"jpn"}]},"item_resource_type":{"attribute_name":"資源タイプ","attribute_value_mlt":[{"resourcetype":"departmental bulletin paper","resourceuri":"http://purl.org/coar/resource_type/c_6501"}]},"item_title":"イギリスの中世主義 : ウォルポールとモリスの間にあるもの","item_titles":{"attribute_name":"タイトル","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_title":"イギリスの中世主義 : ウォルポールとモリスの間にあるもの"},{"subitem_title":"The Medieval Revival in 19th-century Britain and its Orientalist Roots : From Horace Walpole to William Morris","subitem_title_language":"en"}]},"item_type_id":"10002","owner":"13","path":["1784"],"pubdate":{"attribute_name":"公開日","attribute_value":"2018-04-27"},"publish_date":"2018-04-27","publish_status":"0","recid":"8948","relation_version_is_last":true,"title":["イギリスの中世主義 : ウォルポールとモリスの間にあるもの"],"weko_creator_id":"13","weko_shared_id":-1},"updated":"2023-05-15T14:56:54.971326+00:00"}
