However, many villagers’ committees still\nremain, even there are no longer villagers.\nIn China, urban areas and rural areas are separated administratively, so\nare the urban residents and rural residents as well as their selfgovernment\norganizations, the urban residents’ committees and the\nvillagers’ committees. However, in some newly developed urban areas, the\nurban residents’ committees and the villagers’ committees are co-existed.\nThis paper aims to understand the actual conditions of the villagers’\ncommittees that remain through the urban development. By taking S\nvillagers’ committee in Nanchang as a case study, the differences between\ntwo different kinds of committees’ roles were examined, as well as the\nreasons of their co-existence.\nAs a result, the duties of S villagers’ committee changed a lot since the\nland expropriation. And it is playing an important role in the process of\nvillagers’ transition to urban residents.
