The author shows an example, where public\nlibrarians in this country should provide reference services utilizing phone\nbooks to customers. Some librarians say ‘We don’t have phone books in our\nLibrary’. But, in fact they have. Behind the situation, there have been lots\nof ‘It’s me, send money’ scams these days in Japan. The scammers used to\nmake a good use of telephone books. Government entities and NTT\ncorporations have even gone to recommend telephone users to get off their\nnames and phone numbers from phone books. Japanese library world in\npart seems to have difficulty in treating phone books.\nAs to reference services in public libraries, the author has a long-held\nmystery about the practices of Japanese librarians.
