| 内容記述 | For this paper, I studied the Japanese suffix raiku derived from the English expression "-like". Based on an investigation of three kinds of corpus, I make clear in the paper that raiku functions as an affix to denote either words used by hobby-based groups or technical terms in various fields. In the case of the former, "na" (a marker designating an adjectival verb) is almost always added, but for technical terms "na" is usually not added. In everyday Japanese language, raiku was not adopted as a suffix until at least the 1970s. However, as a technical term it began to be employed from the 1960s onward. The basic function of raiku is to act as a simile. It is generally thought that raiku came to be used as a component of a coined technical term as a result of one of the following three factors : (1) it has the function of joining two or more words together to make a single word ; (2) it carries the nuance of a technical term; and (3) its meaning is not too broad. In addition, I consider the process by which raiku came to be "Japanized",and present some models to illustrate this process. | |||||
