| 内容記述 | In my previous article "The Development of a Large-Scale Employee Education Program at Yawata Iron & Steel Works and Its Influence on Japan's Rapid Economic Development (1)" in St. Andrew's University Economic and Business Review Vol.42, No.2, November 2000, I wrote on the overall impact of a massive education program, and in particular, on the impact on "foremen". This Education of foremen forced the company to develop overall education programs for workers who were the source of foremen. A total of almost 40,000 workers, which consisted of nearly 20,000 lower educational level workers in the year 1961, and approximately 20,000 workers newly employed between 1961 and 1969, were given basic education in addition to work by Yawata Works, and nearly 7,000 out of them were transferred to the newly constructed steel works. This article deals with the overall impact of workers' education system in Project: 1) how the overall program and each individual course were designed by the "Education Committee" of Yawata Works, 2) how each course was conducted by Education Department and the related Plants as well as staff, and 3) how evaluation of educational outcomes were utilized in the Committee's re-design of the program. The workers studied three hours every other day of the week before or after doing their regular three shifts work of 48 hours over 6 days a week, which is unimaginable in companies today. This article will provide facts on the education program that have never been published so far, based upon the records of the "Education Committee" of the Works, other published company materials, and the Works weekly journal "Kurogane". | |||||
