Method : A total of 65 primary school students attended a mental health awareness workshop and completed pre and post questionnaires detailing knowledge about mental illness and social distances. The workshop focuses on contact with consumers and educating about mental health. Results : The questionnaire was answered by 62 students. The students responded in detail to a ten question survey testing knowledge about mental health. When their pre and post knowledge scores were compared, mean scores rose from 10.73 at baseline to 14.69(t=-6.08, p\u003c.001). In addition, they responded to a further four questions related to social distance. When their scores were compared, mean scores rose from 9.34 at baseline to 11.79(t=-4.26, p\u003c.001). Consumer\u0027s narrative story and mental health education can produce positive changes in the students\u0027 image towards people with psychiatric disabilities. However they couldn\u0027t increase mental heath literacy. Conclusions : I suggest that it should be compulsory for primary school students to be educated about mental health.
